Meet the roasters from our July ’16 box

Meet the roasters from our July ’16 box

Featuring three exquisite coffees from Parlor Coffee Roasters, Clifton Coffee Roasters and Turun Kahvipaathimo.

This month we’ve got another great line up for you. For the second time ever, we’re teaming up with a US-based roastery in the form of Parlor Coffee from Brooklyn, NY. These awesome kids have been at the forefront of building a vibrant coffee scene in the Big Apple and are making their European debut in our July box. They will be joined by our friends Clifton Coffee Roasters from Bristol and Turku-based coffee roasters Turun Kahvipaahtimo.

#1: Parlor Coffee

Parlor Coffee is an independent coffee roastery based in Brooklyn, New York. These guys first emerged as a small pop-up espresso bar inside the Persons of Interest barber shop in downtown Brooklyn, but quickly developed into a fully fledged specialty coffee business.

Run by a team of passionate professionals, Parlor Coffee roasts all of its delicious coffees out of a stunning roastery in the industrial backyard of New York City. Since the beginning, they have invested a great deal of energy into sourcing directly from selected farmers, traveling the whole world over in search of perfectly and delicious coffees.

These days, they supply some of the finest specialty coffee bars in New York and further afield, but it’s their collaboration with us that will see one of their gorgeous coffees travel to all four corners of the world as part of our July ’16 box.

For us, it’s an honour to welcome another great US-based coffee roaster to our family of partners, following our collaboration with San Francisco-based Ritual Coffee Roasters, Sightglass and Four Barrel in March 2015.

#2: Clifton Coffee Roasters

Founded by James Fisher in 2001, Clifton Coffee Roasters first functioned as a service agent for espresso machines in Bristol and the surrounding area. A few years later when Ed Buston joined the company, it began roasting coffee for its clients and the rest is history.

Today, Clifton Coffee Roasters is a local powerhouse, and has taken on all facets of specialty coffee, from sourcing outstanding coffees directly from its close networks of producers, to roasting and serving these same coffees at its Bristol HQ and supplying local coffee shops with a wide range of equipment.

The guys certainly don’t rest on their laurels and they continuously push to raise the bar higher. Each coffee is roasted to bring out the finest flavours, and their Colombia, Ignacio Quintano, which we selected for our July ’16 box, was recently named ‘pick of the month’ by influential coffee magazine Caffeine.

#3: Turun Kahvipaahtimo

The Nordic coffee culture is widely regarded to be one of the finest and most progressive in Europe. However, in most cases people refer to cafés and roasteries in the likes of Oslo, Stockholm and Copenhagen when using them as examples. Finland, one of the world’s highest per capita consumers of coffee is strangely often missed out. Unrightly so!

Based in Turku, Finland’s second city, Turun Kahvipaathimo is as fine a roastery as you could wish for. Their extremely delicate and beautiful coffees are expertly roasted and served around the city and further afield. Since its founding in 2009, Turun Kahvipaathimo has been at the forefront of Finland’s specialty coffee scene. The team consists of Juhani Haathi and Samuli Pääkkönen who pick out only the finest single origins from Central and South America and Africa.

And while the name of their roastery may be difficult to pronounce for non-Finnish speakers, the coffee speaks for itself.
