Meet the roasters from our October ’16 box

Meet the roasters from our October ’16 box

Presenting you, once again, with a stellar line up in October, our latest coffee box features three stunning coffees from Ritual, Vagabond and Per Nordby

This month we have a truly exquisite lineup of three super awesome roasters and three of their most delicious coffees for you. During our most recent tasting session in which we determine the coffees to go into our next coffee box, we tasted and scored a total of twelve coffees that were sent to us by an array of different roasters. Held at Bocca Coffee Roasters’ spectacular Amsterdam flagship store for the first time, our team of eight coffee professionals got to sniff, slurp and pick our winning team of coffees.

Find out more about the roasters who will be making an appearance in our next box right here.

#1: Ritual Coffee

A veteran of the critically acclaimed San Franciscan coffee scene and one the city’s first independent specialty coffee roasters, Ritual has been a household name for more than a decade. When founder Eileen Hassi Rinaldi first opened her Valencia Street shop she wanted to ‘serve awesome coffee to local artists and hippies’. Little did she know that her venture would quickly develop into one America’s most respected and beloved coffee brands.

Now roasting several tons of coffee a month but still working with the highest quality producers from around the globe, Ritual set the tone with regards to direct trade and being a long-term partner to many of its most loyal suppliers.

Operating a number of shops around the city and supplying many more across the country, Ritual’s sickle and star logo can be found in the most unexpected places, such as our upcoming October ’16 box. In Eileen’s own words: “I like working with The Coffeevine because I trust The Coffeevine to be a curator. I know when I send you guys my coffee that we’re in good company and you will get our coffee to people who care about good coffee, and who may not have heard of us.”

Our selected coffee from Ritual:

Costa Rica, El Angel (Lecheria)

Tarrazú, 1.680masl

Caturra – washed

#2: Vagabond Coffee Roasters

Our latest partner from London – and we’ve had quite a few from the UK’s capital – is a fine roastery that’s tucked away behind Highbury & Islington in London’s northeast. The first Vagabond N4 was built out of reclaimed wood, used furniture and put together with bare hands. Today, Vagabond is a professional coffee roastery whose Ethiopia, Biftu Gudina really blew us all away.

Head roaster Edgaras Juska is not just busy roasting coffees at Vagabond, but also a certified Prufrocker. When we first approached Edgaras and the team during the London Coffee Festival 2016, he was immediately thrilled by the prospect of seeing one of his coffees making an appearance in our coffee box. And what an appearance it will be!

#3: Per Nordby

Sweden is synonymous with specialty coffee scene and Per Nordby has been at the forefront of the Scandinavian nation’s fast rise to coffee stardom. Led by stellar roasters like Koppi and Drop, Sweden has managed to carve out a really unique niche for itself, significantly influencing the world with its ‘light roasts’ and its wonderful ‘fika’ culture. Fika is a Swedish word that stands for more than just ‘let’s have coffee’. It’s about enjoying life, enjoying each other and enjoying coffee.

Per, who is based in Gothenburg, supplies fine coffee bars all over Europe and his coffees can regularly be found in places like Berlin, Amsterdam and further afield. He maintains close relationships with his most trusted suppliers and always maintains a small but refined portfolio of seasonal coffees.

I like hearing about how baristas get their starts in the coffee world. Great pictures.

Wow, what an interesting, diverse collection, one of your best yet I think! Great to see Vagabond Coffee Roasters in there, always great to see English and London coffee making its way in the world, we can’t help be biased, we love English coffee and Vagabond’s Ethiopian blend sounds fantastic! Ritual coffee seems like a perfect partnership and their coffee looks delicious.
