Meet the roasters from our June ’16 box

Meet the roasters from our June ’16 box

Our '2 year anniversary' box includes three spectacular coffees from La Cabra, Rocket Bean and CafféCouture.

For our June ’16 box we teamed up with three really awesome coffee roasters, two of which are new members of our big coffee roasting family, while the other returns for a second time. June also marks the 2 year anniversary since launching our coffee subscription service back in June 2014. We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have worked with so many fantastic people and shipped out so many delicious coffees over the years. Therefore we made sure that our June ’16 box is also really special.

#1: La Cabra

La Cabra from Aarhus in Denmark is one of the fastest rising stars in the European specialty coffee scene. Ever since its founding in 2013, La Cabra quickly gained a loyal following across the world and regularly wows consumer and customers alike with its exquisite selection of fine coffees.

La Cabra founder Esben Pieper managed to put together a stellar team of professionals who have won numerous awards and manage to continuously increase quality levels. Their most recent output is a gorgeously shot movie that focuses on their number one mission: Brightness.

In this short movie, La Cabra explain with beautiful visuals why brightness is such an important element of great coffee and to which lengths they go to achieve it.

La Cabra also run an incredible bakery that produces some of the finest breads in town, perfectly complementing its outstanding coffee menu. Also here, it’s all about the finest ingredients and prepared with the greatest care to find and deliver that ultimate flavour and experience.

#2: Rocket Bean

During a recent interview with Sprudge co-founder Jordan Michelman he said: “Eastern Europe jumps off the page as being such an incredibly exciting place for coffee culture right now. The generational narrative there is part of it in a really fascinating way. All these kids born in the late 80s and 90s, the first generation to grow up after Soviet rule, and they’re the ones who are often launching these incredible cafes and restaurants.”

The second roaster to be featured in our June ’16 tasting box hails from Latvia, one of the small Baltic republics that have seen an incredible amount of change and progress ever since gaining independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Rīga is often cited as the ‘Pearl of the Baltics’ due to its wealth in art nouveau architecture and rich cultural heritage, and Rocket Bean is now injecting a healthy dose of caffeine into this city’s arteries.

Founded by coffee professional and entrepreneur Mārtiņš Dzenis, Rocket Bean occupies a gorgeous industrial building in the hip Miera Lela neighbourhood. In the past, the building housed a chocolate factory and to Dzenis there was no better way to continue this heritage of craftsmanship than to open the first third wave coffee roastery.

#3: CafféCouture

Vienna is known for many things, including its opera, gorgeous architecture, Sacher cake and the Schnitzel. But it’s also well known for its historic coffee houses, places where the great minds of philosophy, politics and the arts came together to discuss ideas and drink numerous cups of coffee.

Many of these historic coffee houses are still around of course but it is now in the hands of a young generation of coffee professionals such as Georg Branny to introduce Vienna to a contemporary take on coffee.

His roastery CafféCouture is widely regarded as one of the finest coffee roasteries in Austria, regularly winning awards and gaining critical acclaim from critics and fans.

Georg’s mission is simple but convincing. He wants to pick only the finest coffees, a small selection at any given time, and bring out the very best flavour in each bean. His coffees are often quickly sold out and hotly sought after by people in the know. We are thrilled to welcome CafféCouture to our family of roasters and feature one of the most spectacular coffee’s we’ve ever had in our June ’16 tasting box.
