If you think coffee is purely made for drinking, think again!
Over the years we’ve come across many interesting people with innovative businesses that used coffee for ends other than for brewing. Indeed, coffee is such an incredibly versatile product that it can be used to grow exquisite mushrooms, as a natural deodorant for your fridge or even as an organic pipe cleaner.
One product category in particular that has moved into the spotlight for containing a lot of dangerous chemicals is beauty products. While they may promise to reduce wrinkles, make our skins glow and stop us from sweating for 24h, they are often packed with unintelligible components that would make your hairs stand on ends if you knew what they actually are.
There are plenty of articles and analyses that point this out and yet, we are too often blinded by the promises made in big advertising campaigns featuring the world’s most beautiful people. I mean, do you want to have Oxybenzone, Mercury, Formaldehyde or Coal Tar going onto your skin?
The effect of chemicals on her skin was the reason that drove Emily Casey to come up with her own homemade line of skin care products, because she was simply ‘fed up with her skin always getting irritated by harmful chemicals whose long term effects were simply unknown.’
The Australian-born Berliner created Naked Beans, a vegan, organic and totally natural range of simple skin care products that are really good for you. Some of them, such as her body scrubs, also use coffee as a component, acting as a natural exfoliant for your skin that gets rid of dead skin and leaves it feeling fresh and revitalised.
As a result, we reached out to Emily to work together and we’re thrilled to announce that every coffee box that is part of our upcoming December ’16 edition will feature a sample of her wonderful small-batch produced body scrubs.
And it doesn’t just end here. Instead of throwing away any coffees that we had left over from previous tastings and past editions, we sent her a big box with coffee bags that she in turn used to make these scrubs. No waste, just pure goodness.
