October is a month of change. We’re bringing you proper comfort coffees.
Autumn is in the air, well, depending on where you are, of course. Here in Barcelona, the weather is still largely pleasant and warm. Even in Berlin and Amsterdam the sun is still shining. But in other parts of the world, spring is getting started. That’s just how the cookie crumbles. So, no matter where you are, our coffees for October will be a great companion for whatever season you find yourself in.
Our most popular boxes are our European roasters or All roasters subscriptions but we also have a ton of other exciting selections, including a decaf subscription and more! Find the full range of boxes in our shop.
Now, without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the roasters we picked for this edition.
🇪🇺 European Roasters
Prolog – Copenhagen, Denmark
Denmark is the source of some of the best coffee roasters in the world and Prolog is definitely one of the best the country has to offer. We first worked with them in 2021 and have kept a close friendship with them since.
Founded by Jonas Gehl Madsen and Sebastian Quistorff Sørensen in 2016 as a small coffee bar, Prolog eventually started roasting and is now a fully fledged specialty coffee powerhouse encompassing wholesale, education and much more.
It is also involved in many projects at origin, helping to improve quality and educate farmers. Peru is a particular focus country for Prolog and the lot from La Higuera that we selected is a great example of the excellent coffees they source.
Expect notes of red apple and brown sugar.
🟡 Single roast profile for filter & espresso.
Neues Schwarz – Dortmund, Germany
Benedikt Heitmann, one of three co-founders of Neues Schwarz in Dortmund and us go way back. Way back to the days when he was roasting coffee at Machhörndl in Nürnberg and we ordered coffee from them in 2018. After moving back to his hometown of Dortmund together with his wife Felicitas Frenger, they joined forces with Benedikt’s brother Johannes to set up the first specialty coffee bar in this Germany industrial city.
We have worked with Neues Schwarz multiple times over the years and Benedikt even drove all the way to Amsterdam to personally deliver the last coffee we featured in 2021.
For the newest collaboration with them, we picked a super juicy Rwandan lot from Rugori.
Expect notes of cassis and cane sugar.
🔵 Separate coffees for filter & espresso.
Cult – Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Our newest UK based partner is Cult from Edinburgh who recently introduced super fun new branding that completely elevates the brand to new levels.
Founded in 2014 as a small espresso bar called Cult Espresso and run by father-and-son duo Kevin and Gary Stone, Cult has become, well, somewhat of a cult brand. It sources exceptionally delicious coffees and roasts them to perfection.
It has come a long way from being a local student hangout to becoming a sought-after roastery supplying businesses across the UK and further afield. We’re super happy to welcome them to our growing family of roasters and give you a taste of Cult. For their debut, they will roast a Colombian origin blend called Dawn til Dusk.
Expect notes of milk chocolate and marzipan.
🔵 Separate coffees for filter & espresso.
🌍 Global Roasters
Coffee Libre – Seoul, South Korea
One of the most legendary specialty coffee brands in Asia is undoubtedly Coffee Libre from Seoul. Founded in 2009 by oddball Pil Hoon Seu, Coffee Libre always broke norms and sought to do things differently.
Since the beginning, Pil spends at least 3 months per year at origin and even had his own coffee farm in Guatemala for a while. Coffee Libre also supports various other projects around the world including funding schoolgirls in India. Coffeevine founder Alex Kitain spent a day with Pil in Seoul last year where he showed him some of the best coffee shops in the neighbourhood of two Coffee Libre flagship cafés. This will be Coffee Libre’s second feature in a Coffeevine box, this time making a splash with a gorgeous natural processed Ethiopian lot from Basha Bekele.
Expect notes of lavender and blueberry.
🔴 Filter roast only.
Bocanegra – San José, Costa Rica
After recently featuring Alquimía from El Salvador and Paradigma from Guatemala, we’re now proud to introduce to you another brilliant roaster based in a Central American country, Bocanegra from from Costa Rica.
Founded in 2017 as the love child of a coffee professional, Bruno Santos and a brand studio, Pupila, Bocanegra aims to showcase the finest coffees from Costa Rica. It works closely with farmers from different regions, often championing coffees from lesser known areas.
For its first Coffeevine feature, Bocanegra will be roasting an excellent natural-processed lot from Tres Ríos, run by producer Eduardo Gurdián. This coffee will give you a first-hand taste of what Bocanegra is all about.
Expect notes of raisin and maple syrup.
🔴 Filter roast only.
🌙 Decaf Feature
Les Révélations – Paris, France
For our decaf feature in October, we’re going to work with one of our three trusted rotating decaf partners Les Révélations. Co-founded by Piroska Hunady, this fine roaster focuses on the highest quality decaf lots from around the world.
We have worked with Les Révélations many times over the past few years and love how they aim to show us that decaf can be just as exciting and delicious as regular coffees. If you don’t believe it, you just have to try! For this edition, they will roast a carbonic macerated Nicaraguan lot that was processed by Swiss Water.
Expect notes of red apples and chocolate.
