The British Isles are quite a diverse place. Beyond the city of London, the Scottish Highlands or the Welsh valleys, there is so much to discover. One such place has to be the Isle Of Man.
This small speck of land between Great Britain and Ireland has been on my bucket list for more than twenty years. It first came to my attention when I lived in Lancaster, just across the Irish Sea.
At the time, I always wanted to visit and yet, I never did. Thus, when my 20 year anniversary reunion came up recently, I said ‘it’s now or never’.
The island is surprisingly rugged and has its own cultural identity that was shaped by Vikings, Kings and Italians. While it is also very much a tax haven and internationally famed for the TT Motorcycle race, it is trying to establish itself as a unique tourist destination in its own right.
During my visit, I didn’t just explore old castles and secluded bays but also tried to find out if the island had any noteworthy specialty coffee. Turns out, it does!

Café 360 – Main cycling shop and restaurant with specialty coffee
Cycle 360 House, Isle Of Man Business Park, Douglas, Isle of Man IM2 2QZ, Isle of Man
☕️ Serves coffee roasted by Noa and has some skilled baristas with a good set up.
🛋️ A bit outside of the center and located inside a business park but with plenty of seating both inside and outside
💬 The Coffeevine says: Pretty decent spot with a huge bike shop next to it and some co-working spaces upstairs
NOA Bakehouse & Roastery

☕️ The island’s main sourdough bakery, microbrewery and micro roastery under one roof. They focus primarily on espresso roasts and have a few simple single origins for filter.
🛋️ There are plenty of tables for eating breakfast, grabbing a coffee or having a drink
💬 The Coffeevine says: Great location right opposite the ferry terminal, very handy for grabbing a coffee before your 9 a.m. departure.
Roots in the city – A small takeaway coffee shop that could use some more loving
☕️ Located downtown and convenient if you’re on your way to the Manx Museum. The coffee was OK.
🛋️ Only limited indoor seating on bar stools. The space itself felt a bit run down and the plants could use some attention.
💬 The Coffeevine says: Not the best option in town but decent enough for a takeaway. There is another branch in Peel.
NOA at Foraging Vintners – A nice spot in Port Erin
The Old Coalshed with Pink Doors, The Breakwater, Port Erin IM9 6JA, Isle of Man
☕️ This café is down by the beach and serves coffee and pastries from a window. In the evening, it becomes wine shop Foraging Vintners.
🛋️ There is an indoor space for consuming your coffee but the best would be to sit outside (if it’s sunny) and take in the views
💬 The Coffeevine says: Port Erin is the final stop of the steam train and worthy of a few hours exploration. The café is also next to a sauna so you can come and relax.
NOA Market Hall – Converted market hall and co-working space with great coffee
Market Hill, Douglas, Isle of Man IM1 2BH, Isle of Man
☕️ Part of the Santander Café Co-working space, this Noa outlet is popular with the lunch crowd
🛋️ There’s lots of indoor seating and the location is spacious. Great if you need to get some work done
💬 The Coffeevine says: Overall, pretty decent place with great quality coffee. Feels a bit soulless maybe.
Isle Of Man tips you’ll find useful
🧝🏼♀️The Isle of Man has its own Norse inspired lore with plenty of Manx folk tales that survive to this day
✈️ A single airport serves the island with direct flights from across the UK and Ireland as well as summer charter flights to Spain and Portugal
🤟🏻 People are super friendly and are proud of their culture. A simple “Moghrey mie” for good morning will put a smile on their faces.
🥘 The food is excellent and there is really delicious sea food to be enjoyed.
Final thoughts
For a small island like this, the Isle of Man offers lots of interesting things to do and see. You can easily fill two full days with activities and it’s advisable to rent a car. While the specialty coffee scene is dominated by Noa, it’s nice that there is coffee being roasted on the island.
