Often some of the finest coffee spots are the ones that are hidden in plain sight. Located just a few meters from busy Callao square, this lovely coffee bar is housed on a quiet side street leading down towards Opera.

Owner Guillermo opened the doors to Coffee and Kicks about three weeks ago in an effort to create a relaxed and friendly coffee spot in the heart of Madrid’s city center, a part of town flooded with Starbucks and other poorly coffee bars.

The concept is simple. Guillermo loves sneakers. He already runs a successful shop via his Facebook page, and he loves coffee. So he thought: “Why not combine the two?” Funnily enough he was largely inspired to take the plunge during his time in Amsterdam. “Patta is one of my most favourite shops in the world and Amsterdam has an amazing coffee scene,” he confessed.

The former workshop space retains many of its traditional decor elements like the big wooden beams and the iron door while Guillermo and his team created a homely and cozy space inside. Although the shop has no license to function as a real sneakers store, Guillermo plans to exhibit his most favourite kicks on shelves along the wall and to offer his guests the option to buy them online.

The coffee comes from local coffee pioneers Toma Café who have been instrumental in helping Guillermo to get up and running. Next to the classic espresso-based drinks he also offers filter coffees (a rare sight in Madrid) and a few selected cakes and cookies.
