The Coffee Virus a funny one. When it first opened a few years ago, I said that it was a great coffee but that it was sort of remote, being in Amsterdam Noord. How things change, eh? Today, Amsterdam Noord is one of the hippest parts of town and following the closure of Pussy Galore nearby, The Coffee Virus is now effectively the only third wave coffee bar in the Overhoeks area that is also home to the spectacular Eye museum and the A’dam Toren.

With so much time gone by, I decided to give this review a refresher and to share with you all how far The Coffee Virus has come since its first days. The Coffee Virus has successfully established itself as the vein that feeds much-needed caffeine and great food into the bodies of tech-startup entrepreneurs, scientists and tourists alike, using a newly developed approached to correctly matching coffee drinkers with the right origins based on taste preferences.

The ‘sour, bitter and sweet’ range always includes three coffees that hail from different roasters and whose classification is based on extensive research that was conducted amongst Coffee Virus customers. This makes it easier to make a choice based on something you already know, rather than making an uninformed choice from a coffee menu.

In addition to the excellent coffee, there is also a great selection of healthy breakfast and lunch dishes, cakes and superfood bars that are mostly made with veg grown in ALab’s vertical farming project and cover a range of different cuisines including Suriname, Mexican and much more. Are you vegetarian or vegan? No worries! They cater to everyone.

I think the best part about The Coffee Virus, apart from all of the above, is how it is constantly venturing into unchartered territories, experimenting with new technologies and truly connecting with science. From using different payment methods to hosting experimental workshops and even something called ‘lunch roulette’ where you are matched up with entrepreneurs for a unique meet and greet, The Coffee Virus continues to innovate, just like its customers and that makes it one of the most exciting coffee businesses in town.
