Get ready to tickle your senses with the May 2025 edition

For the upcoming May 2025 edition we're bringing you a selection of fantastic coffees as well our first-ever Canephora special release.

If you’re looking for a really incredible coffee experience, look no further than the upcoming May 2025 edition. This edition will contain some real treasures from a variety of exciting roasters, plus a complete novelty for us that we’re really excited to be testing next month. Keep on reading to find out what it is.

In May, we’re bringing together three brilliant European roasters, two thrilling Global roasters and one very special roaster who will supply our decaf. Putting this edition together was a really fun and rewarding process and I hope you will enjoy these coffees as much as I enjoyed picking them for you.

European Roasters for May

Hard Lines – Cardiff, United Kingdom

Coming to you from the Welsh capital, Hard Lines is a real powerhouse of specialty coffee and one of the most entertaining brands out there. We first worked with Hard Lines back in May of 2022 and have since kept a close eye on them. Founded by Matthew Jones and Sophie Smith, Hard Lines stands out with its unique brand identity, bright colours and fun approach to coffee. It has its own running club, serves delicious food at its café and runs its own social program called Ground Level.

For its second Coffeevine feature in May, it will be roasting for us a juicy and bright washed Rwandan coffee from Kilimbi.

Mok Coffee – Brussels, Belgium

Jens Crabbé founded MOK Coffee in the Belgian city of Leuven in 2012 as a small coffee shop and it has since become of the country’s best known specialty coffee roasters. After moving to Brussels to open a new café and set up a bigger roastery, MOK witnessed big growth and helped to put the Belgian capital on the international coffee scene. We have worked with MOK many times of the years and are excited to partner up with them again for a fresh new feature.

For its next Coffeevine appearance, MOK will roast a washed Peruvian coffee from La Higuera. A bright and clean cup with notes of plum and walnut.

Available with separate roast profiles for filter & espresso

L’Alchemiste Torrefacteur – Bordeaux, France

This roaster was a great find during a trip to southern France in late 2024. My friend Maxine and I were in Bordeaux for two nights before heading to a chateaux to celebrate two friends’ 40th birthdays when we stumbled upon L’Alchemiste. Their roastery is located in a cool repurposed former military complex called Darwin and we got a whole tour from the team who was so lovely and excited by the idea of working with us in the future.

For its first Coffeevine feature, L’Alchemiste will roast a delicious natural processed Ethiopian coffee from Gomma. Sweet, floral and juicy!

Global Roasters for May

Subko – Mumbai, India

The first Global roaster for May is a really exciting brand and our first-ever Indian roaster. Subko from Mumbai was founded by Rahul Reddy who wanted to create a world-leading Indian owned specialty coffee roastery. India is a significant coffee producer but not very well known for its speciaty coffee lots. In addition to a wide ranging Arabica and Canephora offering, Subko also works with Liberica and Excelsa. Other than coffee, Subko also has its own line of fine chocolates and a well-known bakehouse.

For its first Coffeevine feature, it will roast for us a super interesting Indian anaerobic yeast natural microlot from Thamarla Prasadrao. This coffee is vibrant and exciting with lots of juicy fruit in the cup.

Available with a filter roast

Intellect Coffee – Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Joining Subko is Intellect Coffee. This Spanish-owned roaster is a relatively new player in the market but founder Gabriela Cury has built a strong and exciting business that focuses primarily on the Middle East region. Her roastery is all about offering the right product mix to cater to different customers. From big hospitality businesses to home brewers, Intellect Coffee does it all.

We picked out a really exciting infused Colombian coffee that smells like a cherry dessert. It’s fragrant and sweet but delicate at the same time.

Decaf Roaster for May

Schot Coffee – Rotterdam, The Netherlands

John Schot was just getting started with his roastery when he got the call from none other than me asking him if he wanted to be one of the first three roasters to be featured in our first-ever Coffeevine box. Being part of this very special occasion has awarded John a very special place in my heart. When I was in Rotterdam recently, I paid him a visit at his café/roastery and after spotting this decaf on his shelf, I asked him if we could pick it for our May release. He was only too happy to comply.

This is the first Schot Coffee feature in a Coffeevine box in a long time but I am glad that we can once again collaborate. This sugarcane decaf from Ethiopia is clean, light and utterly delightful.

Special Release for May

Chunky Cherry – Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Now, this is something I am really thrilled about. When I was at the Amsterdam Coffee Festival, I noticed a throng of people crowding around the booth of Chunky Cherry, a new roastery from Black to Black co-founder Inge Bulthuis and Mikolaj Pociecha. Mikolaj has been a big proponent of Canephora, more commonly known as Robusta and at the Festival, they were showcasing some of their tastiest crops. I have been a bit hesitant to offer Canephoras but after going to Chunky Cherry’s roastery for a private cupping recently, I got convinced. So, in May, we’re going to offer a special release of specially selected Canephoras that you can buy as a set or as individual bags.

This is really to give you a taste of what’s out there and to help change your understanding of what Canephora tastes like when it is of specialty grade.

The first is a very interesting BRS2314 variety from Kiva Estate in Panama, which was grown at only 450 meters above sealevel. This coffee had a slow dried anaerobic process, which lends it an interesting layer of fruitness.

The second is a lactic washed Tugusari & Robusta BP blend from Reza L.W. in Jlegong Village in Indonesia. This coffee has a really floral jasmine-like cup profile with notes of caramel.

We bring you one step closer to the world’s best roasters.
