Over the years, we’ve featured a great number of German roasters. It’s no surprise really, given the fact that it is Europe’s most populous country and since one half of The Coffeevine’s founding team is German, there is always a great sense of pride when we can showcase another great example of fine coffees roasted there. So it is therefore our pleasure to introduce you to yet another exciting new startup from Germany, this time coming from Hanover.
Founder Arno Auer set himself a very specific goal. Actually, make that two. He only sources his coffees through renowned coffee importers Nordic Approach and he focuses almost entirely on Africa. Arno has a special preference for bright, vibrant coffees that tell a great story, which is how we ended up with his exquisite Tanzania, Ilomba peaberry. A unique coffee indeed!
Despite its size, Tanzania is a largely underrated coffee-producing country, which is only now really making a name for itself in the specialty coffee market. According to Nordic Approach, there are various reasons why Tanzania is not yet up to regional standards, but there are a few promising areas such as Mbeyi where this coffee hails from.
The Ilomba factory sits in Ilomba village, a small town located in the sloping green hills of the Mbozi district and we can assure you that this coffee really blew us away. It’s cute, pea-shaped beans are full of flavour and offer a stunning acidity.
