Discover the stunning April 2025 edition

The upcoming April 2025 edition will feature a fine selection of classic, surprising and extrvagant coffees from different global roasters.

Time for a fresh new Coffeevine edition and this one is for April. Wow! What a selection of coffees! For this edition, we’re teaming up with seven super talented roasters from around the world to bring you an extravagant selection of coffees that will have jump in the air singing ‘yippeeyippeeyeahh’.

We selected these coffees during a public cupping event in Berlin on March 13th where we slurped our way through a lot of interesting candidate coffees. The final vote was pretty unanimous and the coffees we picked represent a diverse range of origins, processes and cup profiles.

For those of you who are keen to take their palates on an adventure, the GEMS and decaf picks will be particular highlights. Now, let’s dive in and take a look at the coffees.

European Roasters for April

Moklair – Reims, France

Kevin David is the current French Barista Champion and one of the most competitive people in the French coffee scene at the moment. After already winning the same title in 2022, Kevin took some time off to focus on his coffee roastery Moklair, which we had the pleasure of visiting in late September of 2024. As Kevin prepares for the World Finals in Milan later this year, he is doing a few bar takeovers in different European cities and showcasing Moklair’s brand new packaging design in our April 2025 Coffeevine edition.

For this, he will roast a delicious natural processed Brazilian lot from Fazenda Boa Vista. This coffee really stood out on the cupping table thanks to its sweet and caramely cup profile and exquisite aftertaste.

Quo – Gothenburg, Sweden

This recent arrival on the Swedish coffee scene was co-founded by Swedish coffee legend Christian Gullbrandsson who previously worked at Da Matteo and co-founded Morgon Coffee Roasters. Quo is taken from the Latin expression ‘quid pro quo’ in which something is given in return for something else. Quo wants to challenge the status quo of the specialty coffee industry by focusing on sourcing exceptional coffees, participating in Belco’s ‘Clean coffee, clean ocean’ initiative and by roasting on a Loring S15 Falcon roaster.

We met Christian and his team during the recent Nordic Coffee Fest in Gothenburg and are thrilled to team up with them for this Coffeevine edition. For it, they will roast a bright and juicy Kenyan coffee from the Karithathi Cooperative.

Kima Coffee – Málaga, Spain

During a recent visit to Madrid, we discovered Kima Coffee at Ambu Coffee Lab. Kima Coffee is a Málaga based roastery run by experienced baristas and coffee professionals with more than 20 years of experience in hospitality and tourism. They aim to highlight exceptional coffees from the best producers and work as sustainably as possible. They also offer education and training to aspiring baristas and roasters.

For their Coffeevine debut, Kima Coffee sent us some really beautiful coffees to considering during our cupping and the winning lot was a sweet and floral red honey processed heirloom from Konga in Ethiopia. This coffee is absolutely delicious!

Global Roasters for April

Cedar Coffee Roasters – Cape Town, South Africa

When we visited Cape Town in 2017, we found a nascent coffee scene that was full of energy and keen to get noticed by the rest of the world. It was really fun to tour different cafés and and meet a bunch of local roasters, many of whom we kept in touch with. The founders of Cedar Coffee Roasters, Leigh Wentzel and Winston Thomas, grew up in the Capetonian coffee scene and learned the ropes at the likes of Origin Coffee Roasters and Rosetta, the latter being a recent Coffeevine partner too. Now with their own business, Leigh and Winston are giving the local coffee scene a taste of their own flavour.

For Cedar Coffee Roasters’ first Coffeevine feature in April, they will roast a delicious washed Rwandan coffee from Shyira, a producer that we first featured in 2024. This is a classic Red Bourbon variety with lots of red fruit and a vibrant acidity.

Coffee Relief – Quito, Ecuador

After recently visiting Mexico and Guatemala and once again coming into close proximity of world class coffee farms and meeting passionate local roasters, we’re excited to partner with our first ever Ecuadorian roaster in April. Following their ‘Most sustainable coffee roaster’ Sprudgie Award win in 2024, Coffee Relief from Quito gained international attention thanks to its highly sustainable sourcing practices and beautifully designed flagship café.

For us, this partnership offers a unique opportunity to introduce a broader audience to fine Ecuadorian specialty coffees, which are still surprisingly hard to come by. Coffee Relief has many close relationships with producers in the Quito region and beyond, and for its Coffeevine debut in April, it will roast for us a natural processed community lot from Chaguarpamba. This a bold and outspoken coffee with a lovely sweetness and stonefruit in the aftertaste.

GEMS Roaster for April

Hola Coffee – Madrid, Spain

On the same aforementioned trip to Madrid, we also met with Hola Coffee founders Nolo Botana and Pablo Caballero, two very old friends of The Coffeevine. It had been many years since our last visit to the Spanish capital. During this catch up at their office, they presented us with their latest special release packaging and told us that they would love to be featured in one of upcoming GEMS releases. Given our long history of working together, they didn’t need to ask twice.

For the 22nd GEMS release, they will be roasting for us a really exotic and extravagant natural processed Ombligon variety from famed Colombian producer Nestor Lasso, the enfant terrible of Colombia’s specialty coffee community. Named after the Spanish word for ‘belly button’, this variety is characterised by its large beans and complex cup profile. Nestor is a master of innovative processing techniques and this coffee is testament to his unique style.

Decaf Roaster for April

Rum Baba – Amsterdam, The Netherlands

Since launching the decaf selection in the summer of 2024, we’ve featured some really tasty and surprising decaf lots. It’s been so great to see how many people have developed an interest in this category of coffee, and how incredibly delicious decaf and low-caf coffees have become. For the latest release in April, we’re thrilled to team up with one of our favourite Amsterdam roasters, Rum Baba.

While scouring the internet for a good decaf lot, we came across the Night Owl release that Rum Baba launched earlier this year using a coffee from famed Colombian producer Wilton Benitez. Wilton, like Nestor and Diego Bermudez, is one of Colombia’s super star producers who is shaking up the industry and releasing coffees that completely change your understanding of what specialty coffee can be. This particular lot is a Red Bourbon experimental natural processed sugarcane decaf that tastes like an elegant Middle Eastern dessert with hints of rose and cardamom. It’s truly exceptional.
