This is it. The final Coffeevine box before I move to Spain at the end of August. Don’t worry, The Coffeevine will continue and and I will remain in charge. It’s just that someone is joining the team and they will take care of the packing from September onwards.
More on this in a separate post. As this is the final edition while I still in The Netherlands, I wanted to invite three brilliant Dutch roasters to join the European roasters selection. My hommage to this country that inspired me to start this business.
They will be joined by two exciting global roasters, an award-winning GEMS partner and another fantastic Dutch roaster who will provide our decaf. Be sure to join me in celebrating the end of this era with an exceptional Coffeevine edition.
Now, let’s take a look at the roasters and their coffees!
🇪🇺 European Roasters
Kolibri – Tynaarlo, The Netherlands
During the past few years, I ran into Stephany Marmolejo and Darius Karremans, founders of Kolibri, a few times at the Amsterdam Coffee Festival. Then, earlier this year, I decided to pay them a visit when my friend Maxine and I were in the local area.
Though still ‘small’, Kolibri is carving out its own space in the Dutch specialty coffee scene with a very unique story and an unerring approach to great coffee. Darius’ family owns a coffee farm in Costa Rica and Stephany hails from Colombia. Coffee practically flows in their blood.
This heritage is what drives them to source and roast incredibly tasty coffees from talented producers. After many meetings and chats, it was finally time for them to get a spot in a Coffeevine edition.
Both of the coffees that they sent were delicious but in the end, it could only be one. The final pick is a fresh and delicious washed Kenyan lot from Thikagiki.

Manhattan Coffee – Rotterdam, The Netherlands
There are some Dutch roasters who hardly need an introduction. Manhattan Coffee from Rotterdam might be one of those. Founded in 2017 by two multi-award winning baristas, Esther Maasdam and Ben Morrow, Manhattan Coffee has become a force to be reckoned with.
The first time we worked together was in 2020 when Manhattan launched our GEMS series with a spectacular green-tipped Gesha. We have since featured them once more but I’ve been waiting for the perfect moment to team up with them again.
For their third Coffeevine appearance, the highly capable team at Manhattan will roast for us a super delicious Brazilian coffee from Inacio Soares, a producer that they have been working with very closely for many years.
This is an unusual anaerobic honey red and yellow Catuai blend that has a vibrant and juicy cup profile.

Dagger Coffee – Utrecht, The Netherlands
Dagmar Geerlings and I go way back. A decade ago, we both worked as baristas for Lot Sixty One in Amsterdam but eventually our paths diverged. She competed in the Dutch Barista Championships a few times and eventually opened her own café, Dagger Coffee.
In the years since, we have kept in touch and Dagger even hosted a Coffeevine cupping event for me in 2024 where we picked some coffees together with a bunch of participants. Dagger always wanted to get featured in a Coffeevine edition too and when I visited Utrecht earlier this year to film my coffee guide, we sealed the deal.
For Dagger’s first Coffeevine appearance, they will roast a super sweet and absolutely delightful natural processed Colombia from female producer Fanny Galindez. Dagger is a big supporter for female coffee producers, itself being an all-female business and this coffee is a great example of a female coffee producing skills.

🌍 Global Roasters
UM Coffee Roasters – São Paolo, Brazil
When Boram Um won the World Barista Championships in 2023, he became the first Brazilian to hold this prestigeous title. Yet, the story of how the Um family got into coffee goes back much further than that. It was in 2002 when patriarch Stefano Um acquired a coffee farm in Minas Gerais.
Soon after, his two sons Boram and Garam also discovered their own interest in specialty coffee and thanks to their involvement, UM Coffee began to flourish beyond Stefano’s wildest dreams. They opened their first café in São Paolo, found customers around the world for their exceptional nanolots and tried to tell a different story of Brazilian coffee.
After Boram won the World Barista Championships, UM Coffee entered unprecedented superstardom. I connected with Garam via Instagram and met both him and Boram at the recent World of Coffee in Geneva. I had been keen to feature a Brazilian roaster for a long time but hadn’t found the right partner. UM Coffee will be thus be the first ambassador of its country to get featured in a Coffeevine box in August.
For this feature, they will roast a delicious anaerobic natural processed Pink Bourbon lot from their own farm. This coffee is sweet, tart and juicy. An absolute delight.
🟡 Filter roast only.
Yardstick – Manila, The Philippines
South East Asia is a big coffee producing region although Indonesia is the most famous country for this. What many people don’t know is that The Philippines also produces specialty coffee but it still lacks the consistency and quality level to keep up with its larger neighbour.
And yet, Manila has a very vibrant coffee scene and one of its most notable brands is Yardstick. Founded by three friends in 2013, Yardstick was originally a B2B coffee distributor focusing on equipment like La Marzocco machines. During the pandemic, however, the company pivoted towards roasting and serving outstanding specialty coffees in what is now 11 cafés in the country. Plus, it has another roastery in Singapore from where they ship to global customers like us.
I am very excited to be teaming up with Yardstick and for it to be the first Philippine roastery to make an appearance in a Coffeevine edition. For us this means that we can again introduce you to a very exciting name that you probably wouldn’t come across in your local café.
For its feature, Yardstick will roast a very tasty washed Indonesian lot from Pulu Pulu. This coffee is clean and well-balanced with notes of mango and cacao nibs.
🟡 Filter roast only.
💎 GEMS Feature
Rose Coffee Roasters – Zürich, Switzerland
Matt Winton, the 2021 World Brewers Cup Champion, and I go way back. It was in 2019 that we first met when he was still living and working in Sweden and competing in the World Barista Championships in Amsterdam. Matt, who is originally from Australia, has a very interesting background.
He used to be in the Royal Australian Air Force where he discovered his love for coffee. Being half Swedish allowed him to go work and live in Europe later in his life and that is also where he met Joanna Alm, one of the most wonderful people in coffee. She is the owner of Drop Coffee, a Coffeevine favourite and an old friend of mine personally.
During this time, Matt learned everything he could about coffee, began competing and even became Swedish Barista Champion twice. After moving to Switzerland in 2020 to work with MAME, he became the Swiss Brewers Cup Champion and then took the World title the following year. These days, he runs Rose Coffee Roasters, a fine micro roastery that was first featured as a GEMS partner back in April 2023.
After recently running into Matt at the World of Coffee also, I suggested he should come back for a new collab in August and he was immediately on board. For this, he will roast for us a very exciting lot from the Alo processing station in Ethiopia. This coffee was processed with a Mosto anaerobic natural process giving this coffee an exceptionally vibrant cup profile.

🌙 Decaf Feature
Keen Coffee – Utrecht, The Netherlands
And last but not least, we’re once again teaming up with our dear friends of Keen Coffee in Utrecht. For the past few years, Keen has been a regular Coffeevine partner that we have loved working with on every occasion. A few months ago, I had the chance to visit their fine brew bar in Utrecht and we regularly chat about working together.
For many years, Keen was purely a wholesale roaster with a regular stand at the Amsterdam Coffee Festival but since they decided to be more customer facing, their focus is much more local. This doesn’t mean that they are not regularly sourcing incredible coffees. On the contrary!
For the decaf edition in August, I asked Keen if they wanted to participate with a coffee from Popayán, a producer who is specialised in preparing outstanding decaf lots.
This coffee was processed with the sugarcane method and is a washed blend of Castillo and Caturra. Very tasty at any time of the day!
