Utrecht is a very pretty city with a very long history, a big student population and a vibrant specialty coffee scene. As someone who finds and recommends the best specialty coffee bars, I was curious to check out the local coffee scene and prepare a short guide for you out there to help you find the best specialty coffee in Utrecht.
What I didn’t expect was how this video that I posted on Instagram would blow up. So to everyone who has interacted with this video, commented, saved and shared it, THANK YOU!
I said that if the video reached 100k views, I would go make a part two to include some of the places I didn’t have time to visit in part one. Currently at 133k views (May 22nd, 2025), this guide is by far my best performing video to date and it confirmed that creating these sorts of guides is a great way to continue building my community and connect with the wonderful baristas, roasters and café owners that I love to support and work with.
If you haven’t watched the video yet, give it a whirl and be sure to follow The Coffeevine for more content like this.
List of cafés covered in this video
Ohøj Coffee Roasters
A small coffee shop south of the center. Run by Kevin Ayers who previously lived and worked in Paris, Ohøj is the ultimate neighbourhood coffee shop. Go there to grab an expertly prepared coffee from Kevin’s own range of in-house roasted lots or to buy some beans to take home.
Dagger Coffee
This cute coffee shop in a standalone building north of the center is run by Dagmar Geerlings who I worked with at Lot61 many moons ago. She and her charming all-female team bake, cook and brew everything in house. This is a great place to enjoy exquisite coffee prepared by talented individuals.
