Explore our first edition for autumn filled with exquisite lots from a range of talented global roasters. Includes new GEMS and low-caf lots.

It’s been two weeks since I moved to Barcelona and I am still only getting used to my new life here. A lot of things are very different. Many better, others worse.

But I can definitely say that I’m very happy to be here. When you’ve lived in a city as long as I lived in Amsterdam, there might come a point when you just crave change. Something fresh and new.

That’s how Barcelona feels to me right now. Even though I am not a stranger here, the city is giving me a lot of exciting impulses. I hope that many of these will also translate into cool ideas and ventures further down the line.

For you, our valued customer, nothing much will change. With the arrival of Kieran Lobo in the team, we’re now putting systems in place to ensure our boxes continue to be shipped the same way as they always have in spite of my absence.

You’ll also be pleased to learn that our upcoming October 2025 edition will feature yet another outstanding set of coffees from seven top roasters. Let’s get into it!

🇪🇺 European Roasters

Mabó – Bucharest, Romania

Let’s begin by putting the spotlight on a loyal partner from Romania. Mabó, one of the country’s finest specialty coffee roasters, is a regular guest at European coffee festivals, especially Amsterdam. One of it’s co-founders, Bogdan Georgescu, is a former Romanian national roasting and World vice-champion roaster who started out roasting small batches in his apartment.

These days, Mabó runs a handful of cafés across the Romanian capital where it serves it’s epic coffees. We’ve regularly worked with Mabó over the past few years and it’s a real pleasure to have this brand back in one of our boxes in October.

For this edition, Mabó will roast a delicate and elegant washed Ethiopian lot from Bench Maji. Expect fine notes of chamomille and green tea.

Foundation – Warsaw, Poland

Originally from Ukraine, Foundation set up a base in Poland after the Russian invasion. This was not just a strategic move to gain better access to the EU market but also to ensure it could source coffee and fulfill orders without any restrictions.

I was in Kiev back in 2018 and absolutely loved the vibe and the energy there. There was also a varied and ambitious coffee scene with a growing number of specialty coffee roasters. On a personal note, my grandfather was born in Kiev and I feel very passionate about teaming up with our first ever Ukrainian roastery now.

To mark its debut, Foundation will roast a very outspoken and exotic Colombian lot that was co-fermened with coconut and lemon juice in a slurry containing Lactobacillus and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Yep. The result is a super fresh and very delicious coffee that tastes like a Thai coconut rice treat. Quite incredible, really.

Gust – Beersel, Belgium

This up and coming roaster had been on our radar for a few years already. In fact, it was during the most recent Amsterdam Coffee Festival earlier this year that I finally met the team in person and discussed this partnership. Founded by Tanguy Herssens in 2020, Gust stands for a breath of fresh air in the coffee industry, hence Gust. But you would also be forgiven for associating the word with gusto.

Gust sources and roasts colourful coffees with character that have a positive impact on farming communities. It will roast for us a really tasty honey-processed Ethiopian lot from Koke. Very different to the lot from Mabó. This one has a rich sweetness with notes of molasses and plum in the cup.

🌍 Global Roasters

Mirra – Kingston, United States

Over the years, we have featured a great number of US based roasters but there are not that many who also use 250g as their standard bag size. The USA famously has very different units of measurement for literally everything, and many roasters use 12oz bags, which translates to roughly 340g. So when we do find a roaster that uses the metric system, we like to keep them close. Like Metric from Chicago who made a point of calling their whole business after it, Mirra from upstate New York is another roaster that also has its eyes on more Transatlantic business that many of its compatriots.

Will Warren, its founder, has been keen to get Mirra featured at leading multi-roaster coffee shops across the continent and is always keen to have one of his coffees included in one of our selections. Thus, in October, Mirra will return for the second time offering us a very unusual but exciting washed Kenyan lot from Kii. This coffee is a bit more herbal than other Kenyan lots and will be a real joy to brew and enjoy.

🟡 Filter roast only.

Blume – Melbourne, Australia

Joining Mirra as our second Global roaster is Blume, a boutique roastery from Melbourne. Founded by the multi-talented Angus Gibbs, Blume is a celebration of Gibbs’s many years of working with world class roasters like St. Ali, Seven Seeds and Square Mile as well as coffee traders like Silo. A man of many interests, Angus set up Blume as a coffee trading business back in 2017 and in the years since, the business has evolved into a roastery with a garage style espresso bar.

We first started talking to Blume last year but were unable to get this partership of the ground. That’s why it’s even more exciting that Blume is joining us as part of the upcoming October edition with a hugely rewarding and elegant washed Colombian lot from La Meridiana.

🟡 Filter roast only.

💎 GEMS Feature

Nubra – Madrid, Spain

Earlier this year, I visited Madrid for a long weekend and got a chance to explore the Spanish capital’s vibrant specialty coffee scene after not having visited there in many years. Before Covid, Madrid was somewhat of an insider tip. Then, it suddenly exploded in popularity and this brought with it a huge increase in specialty coffee shops, new restaurants, hotels and much more besides. And yet, if you asked anyone to name a famous Madrid based roaster, you’d probably only think of one or two. ]

That’s why it’s exciting that there’s a new kid on the block, one that focuses on outstanding coffees from small importers with a special connection to their countries. I invited Nubra, which was founded by the same people who own Ambu Coffee Lab, one of my favourite addresses for specialty coffee in the capital. Nubra sent us two exquisite lots to be cupped for this edition and I felt in love with the exotic and juicy lot from Granja Paraiso 92. This farm, which is run by Wilton Benitez, is world famous for its innovative processing techniques. The coffee was sourced through a new Amsterdam-based importer called Unuma, which is run by my dear friend Felipe Reina.

It’s a real thrill to be supporting so many people with this pick and I am sure you’re going to fall in love head over heals with this coffee.

🟡 Filter roast only.

🌙 Low-caf Feature

Tanat – Paris, France

Tanat was previously known Kawa and is one of our all-time favourite roasters. This Paris based roastery and café burst onto the scene in 2019 when its co-founded came in 3rd place during the World Aeropress Championships. Since then, Tanat has experienced a truly meteoric rise thanks to the huge ambitions of the team and its fearless approach to pushing ahead. Its coffees are hugely sought after all over the world and its cafés in Paris regularly feature in various best coffee shops lists.

I invited Tanat to return to The Coffeevine in October because I was told it had some really exciting decaf / low-caf coffees in its menu. Indeed it did. It sent us a very curious Typica lot from Los Nogales in Colombia. This coffee has a very sweet cup profile with notes of caramel. Very pleasant to brew at any time of the day.

🟡 Filter roast only.
