Highlighting the fantastic January 2026 selection

Explore our first edition for 2026, filled with carefully selected coffees from six talented roasters who make up our January 2026 edition.

Christmas is upon us and with it begin the annual festivities. Presents are being exchanged, songs are being sung, one or the other hangover is being nursed and ultimately, we count down towards the end of 2025.

Wherever you may be at this time, whatever you may be doing, there’s one thing that doesn’t stop. Your morning routine with fresh coffee in your mug.

That’s why this is a good moment to think about how you want to start the year 2026. Will you brew something fresh and delicious on the first day of 2026? Will you try to expand your palate? Will you aim to try some new roasters?

If your answer to all of the above is a resounding YES, then you should consider a Coffeevine subscription. There are many options to choose from and you can find all options in our shop.

Now, let’s take a look at our upcoming January 2026 edition, the first of the new year.

🇪🇺 European Roasters

Aliena – Rome, Italy

In 2021, three coffee nerds got together to start a new specialty coffee roastery. Dario Fociani, Arturo Felicetta, and Dafne Natale Spadavecchia already ran Rome’s famed Faro specialty coffee shop and decided that it was time for the eternal city to also have a homegrown world-class roastery.

Aliena is inspired by space, science fiction and the possibilities of the unknown. Coffee is so commonplace and yet, we’re still always learning more about it. Aliena is an elegant brand with incredibly beautiful packaging. This will be its second time getting featured in a Coffeevine edition.

The coffee that we picked is a delicious anaerobic washed Colombian lot from Finca Nacimiento. It’s an orange Bourbon cultivar that was grown at 1,400 meters above sea level. This coffee is a great example of innovative fermentation and processing at its best. It’s fresh, citrusy and clean.

SUMO – Dublin, Ireland

Daniel Horbat is a former World Cup Tasting Champion who landed in Dublin in 2012 in search of a better life. He and his partner Alexandra had no background in specialty coffee but after one spectacular Ethiopian coffee, they had found Eureka.

Yet, it took a few more years and an unexpected pandemic to drive Daniel and Alexandra towards their dream; the opening of their own micro-roastery. This major step came two years after Daniel had already been crowned the 2019 World Cup Tasting Champion. We first featured SUMO as a GEMS roaster in 2022 and then again in 2024.

After growing their roastery in recent months, Daniel and Alexandra were eager to become a European coffee roasters partner for The Coffeevine so we invited them to send us some coffees to consider for our January 2026 edition. For this upcoming drop, they will roast a rich and luxurious anaerobic natural processed Brazilian lot from Santo António.

2:AM – Namur, Belgium

During this year’s World of Coffee in Geneva, I spent quite a bit of my time scouting for potential new roasters. I usually find these major trade fairs pretty dull but I do enjoy the social aspect of running into old friends and making some new ones. 2:AM from Belgium was one of the few new roasters that really stood out to me.

Founded by Anaïs from Montreal and Marie from Namur, 2:AM is more than just a roastery; it’s also a coffee school in Namur. Anaïs and Marie spent some time in Central America to learn about specialty coffee at origin and develop their understanding of the product before returning to Belgium to set up their micro roastery and training space.

I was struck by their beautiful packaging and really enjoyed tasting their outstanding coffees. It’s always a great honour to be able to showcase up and coming roasters like 2:AM. For its Coffeevine debut in January, it will roast for us a sweet and juicy anaerobic Ethiopian lot from Ayele Tulu. It’s clean but funky, just how we like it.

🌍 Global Roasters

Obscure – Brooklyn, United States

A few months ago, Norberto Peña found themselves in Amsterdam and what better thing back then than to reach out to The Coffeevine? We met for a coffee at Scandinavian Embassy and Norb told me about their coffee journey and how they ended up launching Obscure Coffee Roasters in Brooklyn.

As a latinx person with a strong connection to Latin America, Norb wanted to represent the finest coffees from across Latin America in an inclusive and respectful way. A few months ago, Obscure opened its flagship café in Bushwick and now that the stress of that is over, we found a good opportunity to join forces.

For its upcoming Coffeevine debut, Obscure will roast for us a delightful washed Peruvian coffee from producer Norbil Pérez and was sourced from Crop to Cup, an organisation that aims to take lots that would typically go into a community lot and separate them into traceable, single-producer high-quality lots.

This highlights the hard work of producers while getting them better pricing for their coffees.

🔴 Filter roast only.

Bluebird – Howick, South Africa

One of our favourite South African roasters will also join the Global roasters selection for January 2026. Bluebird is the project of entrepreneur Dario Scilipoti who has been building this ambitious business since 2019. Dario works with his hyper talented team to source and roast the most delicious seasonal coffees they can find. I was even a guest on his podcast Coffee Made Me Do It.

We first featured Bluebird back in 2023 before it launched its beautiful new packaging. The coffee that we will feature in January is from Kenyan producer Kamwangi. This coffee is crisp and fresh with a beautiful brightness that is typical for Kenyan lots but is particularly present here.

🔴 Filter roast only.

🌙 Decaf Feature

D stands for Decaf – Vienna, Austria

Sourcing excellent decaf coffees is not as easy as you might think. Although generally speaking the availability of such coffees has increased, many of them are dull or too plain. That’s why starting in 2026, we will work with a rotating collection of decaf specialists who will take turns every three months.

We will start the new year with D stands for Decaf, a fine micro roastery from Vienna that was founded by Miriam Boubachta. Miriam sources the most delicious and outspoken decaf lots from around the world and brings out in them their true and complete character. It’s a delight to work with her.

For the January edition, D stands for Decaf will provide us with a truly delicious Pink Bourbon from Colombian producer Jhoan Vergara. This coffee is fresh, it’s fruity and it’s incredibly complex. You wouldn’t think it’s a decaf.

🔴 Filter roast only.
