Meet the extra delicious November 2024 edition

Our upcoming November 2024 edition will dazzle you with a total of six extravagant and delicious coffees from around the world

November is my birthday month and as you can probably imagine, I want it to be a month full of gifts and delicious treats. No wonder then that for the upcoming November Coffeevine edition, I went out to find six super interesting and talented roasters who are all making their Coffeevine debuts.

In the European roasters selection, we have Cayo from Paris, Von&vonnie from Porto and Ripsnorter from Rotterdam, three brilliant companies that are amongst the most interesting. In the Global roasters selection, we have two South East Asian debutants in the form of Brave from Bangkok and 96B from Ho Chi Minh City who will each roast a delicious coffee that was produced in their own home countries. And last but not least, a fresh and delicious decaf pick coming to you from Les Revelations in Paris, a roastery that works exclusively with decaf coffees.

Now if this is not an edition that calls for a celebration, then you might be pleased to know that it will ship on my actual birthday, the 20th of November. I look forward to making our subscribers and customers happy with this stunning selection. Now, let’s meet the roasters, shall we?

EUROPEAN ROASTERS FOR NOVEMBER

Cayo from Paris, France

A few weeks ago, I received an email from a very enthousiastic Aussie man called Fox Mcinerney. He said he was the owner of a Paris based coffee roastery and café called Cayo and that he was super keen to work with The Coffeevine. Since I am of the opinion that France has the most exciting specialty coffee scene in the world right now (feel free to share your thoughts in the comments), I was intrigued. I would say new French roasters are probably amongst the group that most often reaches out to me at the moment.

Fox moved to France in 2010 and back in those days, felt instantly frustrated by the lack of good Melbourne-style coffee shops in the French capital. Thus a few years later, he opened his first venture, Good News Coffee that served up delicious flat whites just as they do back home. After the pandemic, Fox wanted to start roasting his own coffee and together with a few partners, he created Cayo. For its Coffeevine debut, Fox will roast a really lovely washed Peruvian coffee from Cirilo Andarapino.

Von&vonnie from Porto, Portugal

Our first Portuguese roaster in almost eight years is a fresh brand from Porto, the country’s second city. Founded by Morgan von Mantripp (von) and Yvonne Spresny (vonnie), Von&vonnie has joined a vibrant coffee scene in Porto and runs a cute café-cum-roastery in the Noeda neighbourhood near the river Duoro.

The couple has previously worked in coffee for many years and even lived in my own hometown of Hamburg where Morgan was the regional head of Copenhagen Coffee Lab. Eventually, they decided to relocate to Porto and set up a boutique roastery with a strong emphasis on transparency and relationships. Its first Coffeevine feature will be manifested with a really vibrant and juicy Kenyan coffee from female producer Gloria Gummerus.

Ripsnorter from Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Zjevaun Janga never sits still. After first winning the Dutch barista championships back in 2012, he and his partner Loes Beljaars opened Harvest Coffee Brewers in Rotterdam, one of the most popular brunch and coffee places in the city. I myself have been many times and always loved the creative food and excellent service. More recently, they acquired the space next door, built a fine bakery and started roasting coffee under the name Ripsnorter. Say what, I hear you say? The name comes from the Aussie expression for something that will be really cool, i.e “it’ll be a bloody ripper.”

This year, Zjevaun won the Dutch Barista Championships again and tomorrow (Octoberr 17th), they will open their brand new Ripsnorter espresso bar in Rotterdam. They could literally not be a better time to get them featured in a Coffevine box for the first time. Their debut will come with a really tasty Indonesian coffee from Ciwidey.

Available with separate roast profiles for filter and espresso.

GLOBAL ROASTERS FOR NOVEMBER

Brave from Bangkok, Thailand

The Thai capital is widely known as a shopper’s paradise with a wide array of exclusive malls and tons of creative businesses that have elevated the ‘Made in Thailand’ brand. Couple this with Thailand’s excellent food, outstanding service culture and forward looking populace and you’ve got a winner. The same can be said of the country’s burgeoning specialty coffee scene which has taken great pride in its own status as an origin country.

Many local roasters like Brave from Bangkok keep very close relations with farmers and are thus champions of fine Thai specialty coffees both at home and abroad. Brave, which was founded by Ekameth Wipvasuthi in 2013 is one of the country’s most exciting names in the industry right now. Ekameth aka Tay always wears his trademark thick rimmed glasses and was crowned the 2023 World Aeropress Champion. For Brave’s first Coffeevine feature, it will roast a gorgeous and super exciting Thai coffee from producer Supon “Goh” Chaosuwanwilai.

96B from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

In the most recent edition of Standart Magazine, one of my all time favourite coffee publications, there is a long piece about Thai Dang, one of the co-owners of Vietnamese coffee roastery and café 96B. I vividly recall my own trip through Vietnam back in 2007 when my friend and I spent a good 10 days travelling from Hue in the middle of the country all the way down to Ho Chi Minh City and on to Dalat in the highlands. But it was actually in neighbouring Laos where I first came across Vietnamese coffee at the time. In case you didn’t know, Vietnam is the world’s second biggest coffee producer by volume but much of it is Robusta.

When I reached out to Thai, she was immediately keen to jump on a call and get involved in one of our editions. I was excited by the prospect of offering a fine Vietnamese coffee alongside a Thai coffee as our releases for the November edition. The coffee that Thai will roast for us is a curious Arabica hybrid variety called Tha1 that is only available in Vietnam.

DECAF ROASTER FOR NOVEMBER

Les Révélations from Paris, France

Our second French partner for the November release is a really interesting outfit called Les Révélations. I accidentally came across this brand while searching Instagram for exciting new roasters and when I learned that they only offer decaf coffees, I was smitten. This leads me back to my earlier claim that France has the most fascinating specialty coffee scene in the world right now because where else would you find a roaster that only does decaf? And not just any decaf.

Founded by Piroska Hunyadi and Martin Suard, Les Révélations offers a wide range of excellent decaffeinated coffees from around the world that they roast on a Loring to bring out the finest flavours. They sent us two different origins to choose from but it was the Panamanian lot from Creativa Coffee District that really hit the spot.

Available with a filter roast profile.
