Our April ’16 tasting box, the first one shipped in our new format, contains three incredible coffees from three outstanding coffee roasters. Neither one has ever been featured in one of our tasting boxes before, making this edition extra special.
#1: The Coffee Collective
Founded in Copenhagen, Denmark in 2007, by a highly competent team of specialists, The Coffee Collective is widely known and respected for its groundbreaking practices and quality.
Since day one, Peter J. Dupont, Klaus Thomsen, Casper E. Rasmussen and Linus Törsäter have had a clear mission; to build a transparent trade model that would, on the one hand guarantee the best quality produce, and on the other, allow for producers to get paid above market price for their continuously improved coffees.
As such, The Coffee Collective have been at the forefront of Direct Trade practices that ensure farmers receive at least 25% more than the fair trade price for their coffees, and include yearly visits to origin by members of The Coffee Collective’s team.
And their efforts to be transparent don’t end there. Their coffee bags are made from aluminium-free recyclable plastic with a transparent bottom part to display the beans inside, and their labels contain the producer’s story and how much was paid for that particular lot.
This determination to operate as openly as possible is also manifested at their spectacular roastery in Frederiksberg, where a floor-to-ceiling glass wall separates the 30kg Loring coffee roaster from the state-of-the-art café, where national and international champions prepare each coffee with the greatest care.
We feel honoured to welcome The Coffee Collective to our April ’16 tasting box and look forward to sharing one of their spectacular coffees with you.

#2: Five Elephant
This iconic Berlin-based coffee roastery and bakery is one of the German capital’s most prolific specialty coffee businesses, and has been on our wishlist since day one.
Founded by American Kris Shackman and his Austrian wife Sophie Shackman, Five Elephant first became known for its outstanding cheesecake that to this day seeks its rival in the city.
These days, Five Elephant roast their outstanding coffees out of a separate roastery around the corner from their Kreuzberg café, and Kris and his team travel the world in search of the best coffees from the most interesting producers.
Last year, the company also introduced its stunning new packaging that won them the coveted Sprudgie award for ‘Best Packaging’ in 2015.
It goes without saying, that we’re incredibly happy to welcome these pioneers of Berlin’s coffee culture to our April ’16 tasting box and can’t wait to share two of their delicious coffees with you this month.

#3: Caravan Coffee Roasters
This friendly Kiwi-0wned specialty coffee company from London is everything you want, in a cup, on a plate or in a bag.
What started with a coffee bar at Exmouth, is now a fully-fledged mini-empire that includes the original coffee shop and the relatively new restaurant-cum-roastery in London’s reemerging King’s Cross.
There, the team offers a food and coffee experience par excellence, where you are also welcome to take a look at Caravan’s outstanding roasting operation.
Caravan either sources its coffees directly from a small number of farmers or it works with high quality green coffee buyers Raw Materials Coffee, and if word on the street can be trusted, it’s even exploring the possibilities of starting to source specialty coffee from Burma, a country that recently emerged from decades of isolation.
As one of the big London-based coffee brands that we consider to be coffee’s local rock stars, Caravan has been one of our most sought-after future partners, and we’re incredibly thrilled to finally feature one of their spectacular coffees in our April ’16 tasting box.
Our selected coffee from Caravan Coffee Roasters:
Colombia, El Jardin
Huila, 1,600 – 1,700masl
