During a recent visit to Stockholm, my first in more than a decade, I wanted to get under the skin of the Swedish capital’s specialty coffee scene. Stockholm is widely associated with being one of the birthplaces of Nordic Coffee Culture and coffee plays a huge role in Swedish everyday life. To show you where you can go to drink the best specialty coffee in town, I created this comprehensive guide.

GAST – Laptop friendly coffee shop with food & buns

Rådmansgatan 57, 113 60 Stockholm, Sweden

☕️ Great place to drink coffee from Standout Coffee. They also make a variety of buns in house

🛋️ High ceilings and different seating arrangements. Great for working or catchin up with friends.

💬 The Coffeevine says: Good central location but away from the bustle. The food could be a bit better though.

PASCAL KAFFE BAR – A coffee lover’s haven in downtown Stockholm

☕️ This location is run by Håkan Sävlind who has participated in various Swedish championships. This is a great place to try more exclusive coffees.

🛋️ Not a lot of seating during winter and primarily for takeaway.

🛋️ Feels like someone’s living room. Space is a bit cramped but this a great place to meet locals.

KOMET CAFÉ STOCKHOLM – A good place to discover different Swedish roasters

☕️ They make coffee with a fully-automated Eversys espresso machine but the coffee is tasty! They have a decent selection of Swedish roasters on the retail shelf.

🛋️ Neighbourhood vibes with different rooms and spaces to sit and chat.

Stockholm Tips You’ll Find Useful

🚇 You can take the metro almost anywhere. It’s cheap and fast

🤳🏼 You can pay almost everywhere with your phone. No need to get cash

🥮 Swedes love their pastries and buns come in many different shapes and flavours

🤟🏻 English is widely spoken so you don’t need to worry about communication but knowing a few Swedish words don’t hurt. “Hej” is hello!

Final thoughts

Stockholm is a beautiful city with lots of history. The more you venture out of the center, the more you’ll get to see how liveable it is. Water plays a huge role in the city’s geography and visiting the archipelago is a must! Many of its metro stations have spectacular architecture and are worth seeing too. So go grab yourself a freshly baked bun and a coffee and head out there!
