Just like Climpson & Sons, who we presented to you yesterday, Stooker from Amsterdam are amongst the first two outstanding coffee roasters making their third ever appearance in one of our coffee boxes this month. For us it’s not just proof of their great commitment to quality, outstanding roasting skills and friendship, but also the fact that they are local Amsterdam heros that motivated us to reach out to them for some coffee samples recently. It’s been a long time since we featured a coffee roaster from our hometown and we thought it was time!
Stooker was set up by local coffee boys Florian Hessel and Onno van Zanten after they had both clocked up a few years of working in various specialty coffee shops in the city, and Stooker was their way of channeling all of their combined experience and visions into their own coffee roastery.
Over the years, we’ve seen Stooker go from strength to strength, literally outgrowing their gorgeous roasting space in Amsterdam Oost and needing to expand into bigger quarters to accommodate increased demand. These days, they are omnipresent in Amsterdam, supplying a great variety of businesses, offices, hotels and more.
Their Ethiopia, Chelelektu was one of our clear favourites on the blind cupping table last month and we’re excited to be offering our regular subscribers the washed version of this coffee as a followup to the natural version from KB Coffee Roasters last month. It’s a great opportunity to compare these outstanding coffees’ flavours!
The Chelelektu mill is located in Yirgacheffe, in the Gedeo region and its coffees are considered to be amongst the most refined coffee-growing regions in the country. The mill serves around 650 smallholder farms that are located in the region and employs up to 450 people during harvest season. We’re thrilled to have this outstanding coffee in our November box, this time roasted by Amsterdam’s local heroes Stooker.
