In our [6/18] coffee box

Delicious, freshly roasted coffees from Lot Sixty One, Bailies Coffee Roasters and Illimité.

June is going to be a huge month for us, for Amsterdam and for coffee. In less than four weeks, our hometown is going to welcome the world of coffee for – wait for it – the World of Coffee. We’re excited to be seeing so many familiar and new faces in Amsterdam that weekend and we’re obviously rooting for our friend Lex Wenneker to win the World Barista Championship right here at home.

Our June coffee box will be shipping just before the event kicks off and we’re excited to bring you another delicious selection of exquisite coffees from three very unique roasters and three completely different origins. Don’t miss out on your chance to tickle your taste buds with our choice of coffees from Lot Sixty One, Bailies and Illimité.

Lot Sixty One

When you think of Amsterdam’s specialty coffee scene you cannot help but think of Lot Sixty One. This iconic coffee roaster who was at the very forefront of the local specialty coffee scene boom of 2014 has come a long way since then and will be featured for the third time in one of our coffee boxes next month.

The coffee we chose is a very floral and delicate Burundian coffee from the Buziraguhindwa mill run by Salum Ramadhan who is very detail oriented and works very hard to train his staff to perform at their very best. This coffee is a great representative of this small country’s efforts to stand out in the world of specialty coffee.

Burundi – Buziraguhindwa

Bourbon – Washed

Cherry & sweet tropical fruit

Bailies

During the recent London Coffee Festival we met a lot of wonderful people, including the bubbly team behind Bailies Coffee Roasters, one of Belfast’s finest roasters. As it turns out, one of its team members had been a subscriber to The Coffeevine for quite a long time, but it was only then that we made the connection. Head roaster Stephen Houston was keen to find out how he could put his coffee in one of our boxes and we invited him to send us some samples. Sure enough, one of his coffees made the cut.

It’s not often that we feature Brazilian coffees. It’s not that we don’t like them, it’s simply not often that we are sent really outstanding ones that work great for filter. Our last Brazilian coffee came from Five Elephant more than a year ago. Thus, when our team realised it had blindly favourited a natural Brazil, we were all delighted. This coffee from Bocaina is a direct trade coffee that Bailies sourced from producers Coopfam.

Brazil – Bocaina

Mundo Novo – Natural

Plantain, spiced rum & praline

Illimité

We’ve had our eyes on Illimité from Slovakia for well over a year but it wasn’t until this month that owner Lukáš Kubíny felt ready to send us samples and accommodate our big order. We’re proud of how far he’s come and the hard work he’s been putting into growing his specialty coffee roastery while also learning to be a new dad and moving homes at the same time. This man is a multitasking master!

His coffees truly speak for themselves and represent a level of ambition and quality that shows true dedication. Not a lot of people will suspect that Slovakia is home to roasters like Lukáš but that’s why were here to tell their story. We picked a gorgeous and creamy El Salvadorian coffee from Finca La Montañita.

El Salvador – La Montañita

Pacas – Washed

Caramel, lemon-lime, sweet
