With the exception of a few cold spells and rainy outbursts, the skies over Amsterdam have been incredibly beautiful and blue lately. And now, with the start of the football world cup in Brazil, there’s even more reason to spend as much time as possible outside. Of course, whether you’ll be sipping a cold beer or a delicious iced coffee is up to you but here are our suggestions for Amsterdam’s best spots for lounging around, doing some people watching and enjoying great, refreshing coffee.

1. Espressofabriek Westerpark Come here for an expertly brewed iced coffee to go and head over to the grassy area by Westergasfabriek or even gorgeous Westerpark, which is just next door. This weekend there is also Neighbourfood market, so even more reason to come here for a cheeky bit of shopping and caffeine on Sunday.

2. Lot Sixty One Coffee Roasters
This great corner café doesn’t have a ton of outside seating but makes for excellent people watching and if your timing is right you could enjoy some of their delicious cold brew coffee on the rocks.

3. Coffee Company Roastery
A great spot with a terrace on the water and a fabulous view of Brouwerij t’Ij, it’s just perfect for soaking up hours of sunshine while sipping on a lovely iced latte, picking up a bag of freshly roasted beans for home use and then topping it all off with an ice cold beer from the brewery across the bridge. Even better if your friends happen to swing by on a boat to take you back into town!

4. Screaming Beans
With plenty of sunshine in the afternoon, a fabulous selection of coffees, wines, beers and non-alcoholic sodas, Screaming Beans has one of the best people-watching terraces in Oud West. Feeling peckish? Try some of their food. The late Johannes van Dam gave them 10 out of 10 for a reason.

5. Headfirst Coffee Roasters
This great spot on the busy Westerstraat has one of the best benches in town for sipping a wonderful glass of iced coffee after indulging in oysters at the Noordermarkt on Saturdays. Ask Jonatan and Lex what their current bean offering entails and they’ll take care of the rest.
