#1: Puchero

During a recent visit to Madrid we came across Puchero from Valladolid virtually everywhere. From Saint George to La Colectiva, everyone was raving about Puchero’s fine coffees and indeed they tasted absolutely exquisite. While we have featured Spanish roasters like Nømad and Right Side before, Spain is still disproportionally underrepresented and we’re glad to have found a new partner in Puchero who perfectly showcases why Spain is currently one of the most exciting and vibrant specialty coffee markets in Europe.

Founded by Spanish / Italian couple Paloma and Marco, Puchero is the realisation of a lifelong dream. After spending a good deal of their lives in London and then traveling the world, they gathered a lot of inspiriation before returning to their southern roots and setting up a fine coffee roastery in the countryside just outside Valladolid.

Today, they supply a great deal of great coffee shops across the country and we’re very happy to have them in our October box with a truly exquisite Guatemalan coffee from El Rincón. The coffee has an extremely unusual cup profile, with a vibrant acidity reminisent of African coffees.

Our selected coffee from Puchero:

Guatemala

El Rincón IV, Huehuetenango

1.500 – 1.700masl

Caturra – Washed

#2: KB Coffee Roasters

Our second newcomer this month is KB Coffee Roasters from Paris. Like Spain, France is still in the process of developing its specialty coffee scene and we haven’t featured a French roaster in quite some time. Founded by Nicolas Piegay in 2010 under the monniker Kooka Barra, Nicolas initially wanted to set up a coffee cart like the ones that line the streets of Sydney. Crippled by French bureaucracy, him and his former business partner then changed their plans and opened a bricks and mortar location in South Pigalle instead and quickly became a fixture in the fast-growing Parisian specialty coffee scene.

KB Coffee Roasters have been on our wishlist for some time now and we’re glad to finally feature them in one of our boxes with an exquisite natural Ethiopia. This coffee was one of the top favourites during our selection process for its clean and juicy cup profile that was surprisingly more mellow than what you might usually expect from a natural.

The Chelelektu processing station in Gedeo is known for producing outstanding coffees with the typical trademark Ethiopian cup profile and KB Coffee Roasters gave this exquisite coffee the final touch it needed to shine.

#3: Ozone

Ozono Coffee Roasters from London need little introduction really. Being at the forefront of London’s outstanding specialty coffee scene has made them one of the most respected and wellknown names in the UK and further afield. Run by charming husband and wife team Lizzie and James Gurr, Ozone Coffee Roasters is the UK representation of the company that was originally founded in New Plymouth, New Zealand.

Their Leonard Street HQ, just off Silicone Roundabout in London, has become a real magnet for coffee lovers from all over the world and their fine coffees are expertly complemented by delicious food and outstanding service. Now Ozone is returning for a second time to one of our coffee boxes with a really tasty Ethiopian coffee from Kokola.

During our cupping this coffee stood out with its full-body and flavour profile that reminded us of stone-fruit and cherries. We have never featured a coffee from this processing station and we look forward to sharing it with our customers in October.

Kokola, Agaro
