Parioca Café in Lisbon

This friendly neighbourhood café is known for its Pão de Queijo, outrageous grilled cheese sandwich and excellent coffee

Throughout the ten years that I’ve been running The Coffeevine, I’ve had my fair share of (former) subscribers who receive our monthly coffee boxes as a source of inspiration or as guest coffees for their cafés, and roasters who use the boxes to see what others are up to.

Parioca Café in Lisbon is one such example. Its owners are French and Brazilian who set up shop in Lisbon a few years ago. When I was in their city the other day, I made a point of passing by to say hello to these lovely former subscribers.

The café is slightly outside of the main center in the Santo Amaro neighbourhood that is also home to 5* hotels and embassies. My friend Maxine and I were in Lisbon for two days to host a COMEDY QUIZ show for a large US company’s EMEA sales kick off and as it so happened, Parioca was just around the corner from the venue.

We ventured there for a lovely lunch on the sunny terrace, which at the time of our visit, was paritally blocked by a fence. The building was undergoing some renovation. But this didn’t stop us from soaking up much-needed rays of sunshine as we tucked into various dishes that Parioca is famous for. These include: Pão de Queijo, a Brazilian snack as well as a scrumptious grilled cheese sandwich.

The service was impeccable. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted like long-time customers. The owners, Romain and Joana created a lovely neighbourhood café that is frequented by locals and visitors alike. They serve coffees from a variety of different roasters including KB Coffee from Paris and Ineffable from Seville.

Inside, the seating is limited but you probably should claim a spot on the terrace anyway. After wolfing down our delicious lunch, I topped it off with a lovely affogato. This came with artisan stracciatela ice cream and a shot of espresso from KB Coffee. Considering Parioca was our final stop on that day’s extensive coffee tour, I was really impressed with the amount of cafés we had managed to visit in one day but I was also done for the moment. Ha ha!

Hope you enjoy this place as much as we did!
