The Barcelona Coffee Guide

The Barcelona Coffee Guide

Spain's second city is full of great vibes, delicious food and excellent coffee. This guide will help you track down some of the best places in town.

Barcelona or Madrid? It really seems to divide opinions. One has the beach, its own cultural identity and Gaudí, and the other is the nation’s grand capital with world-class museums, excellent food and some of the country’s wildest nightlife. But when it comes to specialty coffee Barcelona is way ahead of its larger sister.

The city of Barcelona
The city of Barcelona

Influenced by stints abroad, a very international clientele and a very open-minded attitude towards the exotic, Barcelonans took it upon themselves to show the world that Spanish coffee can be a lot more than a big bowl of piping hot milk with a bit of bitter coffee mixed in for good measure.

Here’s our list of the best places in town to get your fix.

Satan’s Coffee Corner II

Satan’s is what originally brought specialty coffee to Barcelona. Yes, El Magnifico has been there for yonks but only Satan’s really put Barcelona on the map and helped launch the career of local roasters Right Side Coffee. This location is their second outlet in the lovely Casa Bonay and it offers a delicious menu of Japanese influenced dishes alongside exquisite coffees.

Nømad Every Day

Located in Poble Nou, this is the second full outlet from local heroes Nømad, which is by far the most recognized specialty coffee roastery from the city. Headed by the charismatic and repeated Spanish barista champion Jordi Mestre, this outlet has a big communal table and shares the space with a collective kitchen space whose various products you can also buy from the pantry there. A lovely spot.

Carrer de Joaquín Costa, 26, 08001 Barcelona – Read our full review here.

Skye Coffee

Housed in a huge warehouse called Espacio 88 that doubles as the HQ of a local architectural firm, Skye Coffee is a beautiful old 1972 Citroën HY coffee truck that is permanently based there. Just plonk yourself into one of the comfy sofas and enjoy a perfectly prepared flat white using beans from Right Side Coffee and occasional guest roasters.

Carrer de Pamplona, 88, 08018 Barcelona – Read our full review here.

Nømad

This is where it all began for local coffee heroes Nømad. This lovely and much-instagrammed coffee bar in Born just offers a little bit of seating along the bar but is the perfect spot to recharge after a day exploring the city’s wonderful streets and squares. A highlight of any visit!

Passatge Sert, 12, 08003 Barcelona – Read our full review here.

Onna

This lovely coffee bar that has an exclusive focus on coffees from Costa Rica is not just a cool place to hang (thanks to the refreshing airco in summer) but also because staff are super lovely. The coffee is excellent and so is the food.

Three Marks

No guide to Barcelona would be complete without mentioning this awesome coffee bar in Fort Pienc run by the wonderful Marc Aguyé, Marco de Rebotti and Marco Paccagnella. They’ve been long-time friends of The Vine and also had one of their coffees featured in our coffee box last year. This café is bright and airy with a solid focus on amazing coffee.

Carrer d’Ausiàs Marc, 151, 08013 Barcelona, Spain – Read our full review here.

Hidden Café

A bit more off the beaten track, this lovely café in the northern part of the city is a great spot for getting away from the crowds. They coffees are delicious, the pastries are fresh and tasty and there’s great people-watching to be done here too.

C/ Constança esquina Déu i Mata, 08029 Barcelona – read our full review here.
